Henley/Bexley/Surney/Verdley Wood.
.
1. Out of Midhurst on the Midhurst Road (A286). Just after the King’s Arms pub on your right, turn left and follow the road up to Henley, the Duke of Cumberland pub. Park the car, but not in the pub car park, unless you intend to patronise the pub.
2. Going uphill there are two FP’s to the left, one before the pub entrance and one just after. Take the second one, you will be returning by the lower one. Keep going, ignoring a FP to your left, until you reach a minor road. Turn left and just before a house on the left of the road turn left again. This goes steadily downhill along a terrible track (I am going to find a better way).
3. Towards the bottom of this hill you will see big buildings on your right – Surney Farm – then you will hit a road. Turn left for a short distance, then take FP to your left. Not far from there do not take the track half left, but bear right.
4. When you see a FP going left, go right, and then go left at the next opportunity. This will take you back to where you parked your car.
This is a very pleasant walk, totally spoilt by the second downhill section, which looks as if it has hosted some heavy machinery, but the first and third sections are fine. Better to do this walk when it has been dry.
